THE CALLING by KELLEY ARMSTRON

The Calling by Kelley Armstrong is the second book in The Darkness Rising series. It is to be published by HarperCollins on April  10, 2012 and has 326 pages.

Maya Delaney's paw-print birthmark is the mark of what she truly is—a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly everyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it's only a matter of time before she's able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.

Now Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they're kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.

In The Calling, the sizzling second book in the Darkness Rising trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong pumps up the romance, danger, and suspense that left readers of The Gathering clamoring for more.[From HarperCollins]

THE FAERYS VIEW

The Calling by Kelley Armstrong is the second installment to The Darkness Rising series. This is a book that I’ve been waiting anxiously for and when I finally got my hands on this ARC I knew it was going to be equal parts of pure bliss and pure torment! Pure bliss because I couldn’t wait to delve into this world that Kelley created and pure torment because I knew it was going to end with a cliffy that I wasn’t going to like! All second books do, that’s just the way it is!

There were so many things I wanted to know from The Gathering, the biggest one is what the ‘gangs’ powers were. I already figured out that Maya was a skin walker in the form of a Cougar but the others threw me a bit. Daniel and Serena, Nicole and Hayley, Cory and Sam all had me guessing! I am happy to say that my question was answered for most of them but I’m still a little iffy on Cory but that’s okay. The next burning question is What the Heck Happened to Serena? Kelley gave me a good idea but still I’m left wondering! There is a snake in the bunch and for those of you who have read The Gathering may be a bit surprised to find out just who it is.

At the start of The Calling, Maya and Rafe along with the group of kids I mentioned above are hustled into a helicopter with the mayor being evacuated because of the forest fire, I mustn’t forget Maya’s extremely smart and loveable German Sheppard, Kenji! Rafe is unconscious from smoke inhalation when the helicopter goes down in a completely secluded wooded island. From there the kids start to learn more about themselves and who it is that’s after them; now they are running for their lives with Daniel and Maya taking the lead.

The Calling is chock full of action-a-go-go, heart-thumping thrills and revelations that I couldn’t wait to find out and some that surprised me. Kelley has a tremendous skill with character portrayal and her world building skills are beyond spectacular. I cannot wait for The Rising, the third in the series where I hope she’ll bring together the characters from Darkest Powers with The Darkness Rising series!
THE FAERY SAYS THAT THE CALLING BY KELLEY ARMSTRONG SET MY WINGS A’FLUTTER

Thank you to ATWT and HarperCollins for allowing me to view this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

  1. I love Kelley Armstrong! Really enjoy her writing. I do think I have her first book in this series somewhere (yes, I'm organized like that!) and need to get on this series. So many books... ;)

I need to meet that shepherd! He sounds too cute. :)

    1. Kenjii, the shepherd, was amazing, I was terrified that Kelley would do something to her and then I would hate Kelley and never ever read another book she wrote, LOL and although this is spoilerish, Kenjii is fine and saves the day mor than once!

LOL @ 'I think I have it somewhere'! Chica, if you've got it, read it! It's fantastic!

    2. I don't mind those types of spoilers. I won't watch some films or read some books unless I know the dog/animal is okay! :)

  4. Just found you blog via a RT - great review :)

I loved the Darkest Powers three, but haven't read any of hers recently - this looks like one I'll have to get, but like you I don't have the patience for cliff hangers...
