Answer Me This... GA Contest $50.00 GC to Best Answer :o]

I'd really like to start a new Meme. One that has been on my mind for a long time and something that I think would be a great way to share our favorite reads with each other.

We all have our favorite books; the ones that we can't put down, the ones that we would give the highest score to, recommend to all of our besties and put on our blogs as 'Must Reads'.

I like to call them ONE-SIT-READS or OSR's. To me, that is the highest honor I can give to an author and their book.

This is what I had in mind---Once a week, each Blogger can post their OSR with a short paragraph about why the book deserves this 'high honor'. I'm not looking for a review, only why YOU liked the book, i.e.
When I was reading [insert book] I felt like I entered a different world. I was swept away with [insert fav. characters name(s)] into situations that were exciting, dangerous and wonderous; before I knew it I was at the last page.
Something to that effect, LOL! My point is, it's a great way to share great books with our fellow Blogger Buds and also tell them why YOU loved it, without having to read a long review-not that reviews are bad, they're not!

It's a quick look at your ONE-SIT-READ's, meaning the books you give the highest praise or honors to.
They don't have to be read in one sitting, either-it's more symbolic of a GREAT book that's hard to put down.

Here's my questions to all of you:

1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme?

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?

3.) Will you participate?

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently?

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things!

The winner will get a $50.00 Gift Certificate to either Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble or The Book Depository. This is International.

So, let me have it! I know this is the Eggstravaganza Blog Hop but hopefully y'all can find time to give me some input. I'm not sure how long I'll let it run yet. Maybe until Friday but we'll see.

Thanks in advance!

Hugs and Happy Reading to All!

Edited to add: If this goes through, there's a good chance I'll incorporate a Mr. Linky so that others can see what their Blogger Buds are posting. I forgot to include that and someone brought it up! Thanks for reminding me :o] I think that it's a good idea so that everyone knows who's participating.

TELL YOUR FRIENDS FOR EXTRA KUDOS-Those of you who posted before this won't be affected :o] but the more who know the better! I want as much input as possible! So, let me know if you Tweet it, Tell a Blogger Bud or Post it on Your Site. It would be very Appreciated!!!

Give me some EXAMPLES, Tell me how you would do it if it were YOUR meme, do you LIKE the ADVERT PICTURE? What day do you REALLY think would be best? Is ONE-SIT-READ's best done in a PARAGRAPH form? Should it be limited to A NUMBER OF SENTENCES? Should I feature a SPECIFIC BLOGGER every week? GIVE me some good answers, Guys! We've got a great Prize!

The first 20 people that replied will go through RANDOM.ORG for a $15.00 GC when the contest is over, Thank you for your answers!!

I'm going to keep this contest going until I have at least 50 responses!

The BEST ANSWER will be the most ORIGINAL---I want ONE-SIT-READ's to be something that everyone will look forward to-something that you'll read and think:

Hey, that sounds like an awesome book I'm glad I read this OSR meme!"

So, That's my Birthday Giveaway Contest and I really really would like some input from my fellow bloggers. You don't have to agree with me but if you do, give me some examples, follow what I posted above---give it some thought and talk to me!
I am going to do a Mr. Linky-I think that will help all bloggers! It's a great way to network and get to know your fellow bloggers! I value everyone's thoughts and their opinions and really want to hear about the books they 'can't put down'.
First I need your thoughts and opinions on how to go about starting this meme that will actually act as sort of a 'hop' if that's what each individual blogger wants or not. Again, give me your THOUGHTS!

Happy Thursday Everyone!

  1. 1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme?

Thursday, Friday, or even Saturday (One Sit Saturday?) There are too many other meme's on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. But a lot of bloggers don't post on weekends, so maybe you should do Friday because it's preparation for the weekend.

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?

Yes! I think it would be wonderful to learn about everyone's very favorite books. That isn't often shared in reviews--what are the books at the heart of a blogger?

    3.) Will you participate?

Perhaps. I do a multi-purpose blog, but I'm thinking of doing a book blog. If I do a book blog, I will definitely participate.

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently?

Maybe you could do a linky for everyone participating to check out each other's blogs. I never read a book in one sitting, but I do understand what you mean. I don't understand people who actually read a book in one sitting. I mean, don't people go to the bathroom?

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things!

If you do this, I really want there to be a fairy in the little advert. It's only fair!

  2. 1. I think Monday or Thursday would be your best bet. It seems like the blogs I follow are full of memes and blog hops on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and especially Fridays. Mondays and Thursdays are more open.

    2. Yes! While book reviews are awesome, I often want to know more about WHY someone liked a book than WHAT they liked about the book. Also, since many reviewers give tons of books 5-star reviews, I'd be interested to see which out of those many 5-star books are at the top of their lists.

    3. Maybe. I try to avoid memes and stick to original content as much as possible. But would I participate every once in a while to share a few of my favs and get the word out about your meme? Sure.

    4. Nope. Sounds good to me. Simple. To the point. Different from the other memes out there.

    5. Looking forward to seeing what some of your OSR's are!

  3. I think this sounds like such a good idea! I also think it would be great to incorporate this into the friday hop memes? It could be added onto that post-and I think that'd help make it more successful. I'd definitely like to take part-especially as I've been looking for a way to promote blogs I follow who deserve more followers! And I think this would help with that. I love the name; it's pithy.
Showcasing a different blog every week is a great idea too as hopefully you'd get a large variety of favourite books! I love this idea! It's different and interesting...and it gives us a chance to add to our ever-growing TBH piles aha!

  4. 1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme? Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. I thought ArtsyBookishGal's One Sit Saturdays was clever.

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?
Yes. There are a lot of books I read in my pre-blogging days that I loved and would like to talk about.

    3.) Will you participate?
yes, but probably not every week, as I am really busy right now plus I try to keep memes to a minimum on my blog.

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently?
You description seemed fine to me.

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things! Nothing to add...I think you've covered everything!

  5. 1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme?

I would say Mondays. Seems like a great way to start for me :-) I think Fridays are already a bit crowded as are Wednesdays, so I would probably stay away from those days.

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?

definitely! While I like reading full out reviews, sometimes I am basically looking for a good book recommendation in a nutshell. This would definitely be a way to showcase new, irresistible finds.

    3.) Will you participate?

Probably yes. Maybe not every single week, but I would certainly do it when I found a book or was reminded of one.

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently? Sounds great - simple, clean, easy to participate (which seems to be key in gaining participation)

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things! I hope you at least try this! I can't wait to see what other peoples' OSRs are!

  6. I just spent 10 minutes writing out a whole bunch of great responses and blogger lost it! Augh! Here we go again...

    1. Thursdays are the less-used days for memes as of right now. I think that's the best day to do it. Also, stats have been showing that blog readers tend to be more active towards the end of the week.

    2. I think it's a fantastic idea and I know exactly what you mean by how an OSR is the highest honor you can give an author.

    3. I will definitely try to participate. While I can think of a bunch of OSRs I've read, I'm a little concerned about whether I can honestly come up with one every single week or not. They just don't seem to come up all that often.

    4. The only thing I would change is to encourage a review with the meme. Since an OSR is obviously a book the reader has finished, why not just quickly review it? Then you're guaranteed to read some reviews every Thursday (or whatever day you pick...).

    5. I myself have been thinking of starting a weekly meme (probably a Thursday one as well!) about Book Trailers. I don't think they're highlighted nearly enough. Would you participate in that if I did?

And this sounds great! I'm excited!

  7. 1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme? I think Thursdays would be good. Mon-Wed. seems busy with other meme's already and it's before the weekend when people are either going to be busy doing stuff or looking for a book to read for the weekend.

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea? I do like this idea. I like reviews and all, but it'd be neat to know what books people just absolutely loved too.

3.) Will you participate? I don't know if I could come up with one every single week but once a month would probably work.

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently? I'd add links to everyone participating or to a page listing who is participating.

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things! No other ideas really. Sorry!

Great idea though and I hope to see it happen!

  8. I like this idea, and would, at times, participate, but honestly, I don't generally work my way through a book in a week, no matter how wonderful it is. :)

I prefer to skip the book summaries typically included in the review and just read the last line or two (the review), so honestly, this is perfect.

As to the perfect day to start...I have no experience with meme's so I couldn't even begin to know...

  9. I love this idea I have so many books I need to recommend to all the awesome peeps out there to read!

1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme?

A wednesday or Thursday so it would give people a chance if they want to read the book to head out and get it for a weekend read.

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?

I think it's a great idea. I read so many awesome books and sometimes people dont want to read long review so this would be great just a short explanation and for people to have a great read.

    3.) Will you participate?

I will def be particpating I just finished a book that I would reccommned straight away.

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently?

No the way you described it was perfect just the name of the book and a short description of why you love it.

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things!

I like the name of the meme but if your looking for any more ideas how about hypnotising reads. Hypotising means Capture the whole attention of someone and thats what some great books do.

  10. 1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme?
Saturday or Sunday. I don't currently participate in memes on those days, and don't see many people that do on my list.
2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?
Yes! We see a lot of "books we're pining for" or TBR lists, but rarely do we talk about our OSRs!
    3.) Will you participate?
    HECK YES!!! <3
4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently?
I think you've got a great handle on it. I definitely think doing a Linky List thing would be best. It just makes everything look nice and organized.
5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things!
I <3 you! I'm going to do a blog roll on my sidebar...and you will be on it! =)

  11. 1) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme? hmm, I'm thinking Saturday or Sunday because the Sit part will sound nice with Saturday or Sunday and since it will sound catchy being either of those 2 days it will be more likely people will remember to do it, just like Waiting on Wednesday, for me its very catchy so easy to remember to do each week (:

2)Do you think this meme is a good idea? YES, I LOVE meme's..most I don't actually like beside WOW and IMM though, but this one sounds great, fellow readers and book bloggers are always asking what our favorite books are and what we would recommend to read next for them welll...now they can just check our OSR posts (:

3)Will you participate? Defiantly, Its catchy and a great idea, and since I really like your blog and your recommendations ( :D ) I would probably do it even if i didn't like it (:

4)Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently? I will do it the way you described, I especially like the idea of just giving a quick paragraph on why instead of having to write a long review, makes it easy for people to post even if their in a hurry then (:

    5) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things!

nope nothing else, besides that I hope this competition doesn't go on too long only cause I really am excited to post my first OSR! I already have in mind my first couple ones, sooo with that said lets get this meme started (((: !! Oh and this is a great idea Kristi ! Its about time someone started a good new meme (:

  12. 1. Hmm, I like Sleepless Saturday for those books that make sleeping and dreaming seem totally uninteresting.

    2. Definitely. There are so many fantastic books that I love so much I can't really put it into enough words to make a full-length review, where the book just caught me in a way I am unable to explain. Sigh, falling in love is difficult to quantify.

    3. Absolutely.

    4. I think it is pretty much perfect, but I might add how many times I have read it or how long it took me to read it. (Saying that you have read it 5 times or stayed up all night just to see how it ended tells people a lot.)

    5. I have nothing else to add, except that it is a marvelous idea. :)

  13. 1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme?
~~ I know my habits and I'm not on much over the weekend, so I wouldn't do it over the weekend. Maybe a day where there aren't a lot of other memos going on, like Monday has the monday one that everyone does. So maybe around Wen. or Thur. would be good. To divide up the week for everyone.

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?
~~ I love this idea! And to have different bloggers by to talk about their books. That will really draw people in. :) I think it would be a great way to meet new bloggers too. To check out their site wondering if we (I and them) have any books in common.

    3.) Will you participate?
~~ Of course I would! I have a few FAV books here that I can think of as in this category I would love to share with others. :)

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently?
~~ I would keep it the same. I like the quick feel for the book with the cover for it. And maybe the synopsis of the book so others can look at it a little too. But definitely put a link to the bloggers site (if they have one) so we can go visit them more. :)

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things!
~~ I think I added this one in with #4. :) Just a link to the book on Goodreads or Amazon or something, and the cover, synopsis, and bloggers site link. :) That way we can find new friends and find the book easily too.

I do hope you do this idea, it sounds like loads of fun! And I'd love to see what everyone enjoys. :)

  15. Wow, great answers everyone! I did an edit earlier that there would be a Mr. Linky added, especially in the beginning so that bloggers could check out other bloggers.

Also, it doesn't have to be YA PNR/UF/Dystopia/Fantasy like my Blog; it can be whatever your Blog covers or whatever your OSR happens to be, either recent or not recent.

One of my favorite OSR's is Robert McCammon's Swan Song-The very first Dystopian novel I read when I was either a freshman or a sophmore in high school. It stuck with me through the years and I still have the original copy (yes, even after a margarita filled day in the sun that turned rainy and the poor book swelled to twice it's size because I left it to get soaked-Bad Kristi)
So, OSR's can be ARC's, New Releases, Just read, Oldies but Goodies or Indie Authors, etc...

Whatever book grabbed you and made you say "Man, that was an amazing book! I can't wait to tell[...]about it or "Dang, I gotta write this review right now while I'm still feeling pumped about the book" You may not use those words :o] but you get the point?

I know there's a lot of meme's out there right now but I feel like OSR is unique enough to qualify as interesting and helpful to bloggers--I think the Blogging Community Rocks! I think that we have a lot to offer to each other as well as others.

Right now I participate in IMM about once a month, maybe twice and I do Wednesdays WOW (I really like this meme) WOW is a great way to find books that are coming out in the future.
In a sense, OSR is kind of the polar opposite of WOW-it's a brief personal paragraph on why you like a Fabulous book that's ALREADY out-in turn, the other bloggers get the opportunity to find a book they may have missed.

I do the Follow Friday and The Blog Hop on Thursday evenings and Fridays and Saturdays.

That leaves me with Tuesday and Sunday. Many bloggers are putting up their IMM's or VLOG IMM's on Sunday afternoons. Again, that leaves me with Tuesday.

I used to do Teaser Tuesday but I haven't really participated in that in awhile but I'm wondering if there's room for both for bloggers that do do Teaser Tuesday?

I don't know, I guess that's what I'm asking you guys along with some other questions!

    I'm counting on y'all!

3.) Will you participate? hell yes il be here every single week!!1

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently? i love the way you described it and cant wait for it to start

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things! nope i love your blog, dont change a think except adding this amazing new memme you want to do. i love it just the way it is :)

i love it when blogs ask us our opinion on this kind of thing :)

  17. Kristi:I believe there is room on Tuesdays for it, I have noticed that Teaser Tuesday is one that isnt too big ( in my opinion) and also One Sit Read Tuesday rolls of the tongue very nicely (: Another plus Tuesday is kinda one of those lazy days where you work and read...ALSO another positive is a lot of people just got there new IMM books and probably have finished one already and can post about that one if it happened to be a favorite (:

  18. 1.) What do you think the perfect day would be to start a new meme?

Mondays, it seems to be the most popular day for memes.

2.) Do you think this meme is a good idea?

I love this idea. A great way to post our all-time favourite books. When reviewing my favouirtes I can never seem to express how much I loved a certain book but this will help everyone to share them =).

    3.) Will you participate?

I definitely will. I have so many favourite books that I would love to share with others =).

4.) Would you do it the way I've described or would you do it differently?

I thought your idea is a great way to do it. You can then really see why it's one of their favourite novels.

5.) Anything else you want to add---Feel Free, don't worry about hurting my feelings, etc...I value honesty above all things!

Nope, nothing to add except I love your idea!

  19. 1. Sunday or Monday. I think most people probably has more time to sit down for a longer time with a book over the weekend.

    2. I think it's a great idea. A quick and easy way to find out about great new books, love it!

    3. I might, but I don't usually participate in many memes.

    4. They way you describe it sounds great.

    5. No other ideas. Looking forward to seeing the meme!

  20. 1. I think Thursdays or the weekend would work best. There aren't many memes going on then and I really think this kind of meme would be nice for a lazy Sat/Sunday evening - with a cup of tea and/or chocolate!

    2. Yes, definitely! We keep talking about the books we liked right after we've finished them, but never about our all times favorites!<3 Or never enough!

    3. Sure! Unless there's another meme going on my blog that day and it can't be 'moved' to another day of the week.

    4. I'd do it just like you said and I'd add my fav quotes of the book for emphasis.

    5. This is a fab idea! I had something similar in mind but not enough courage to make it happen! Good luck!:)

  21. my one sit read!!!

ok i dont know if this is where i comment but my best one sit read was entwined by heather dixon,
its a retelling of the 12 dancing princess story.
i absolutly loved it. the author had a way of making you feel as if you were right there in the story from page one.

this is just a bit from my fave part

Excerpt that week, azalea taught her sisters the entwine. it was a tricky waltzlike dance, and a competitive one, where the lady and gentlemen each held an end of a long... sash and weren't allowed to let go. the gentleman would try to "catch" the lady bringing the sash about her wrists by pulling her into an under-arm turns and stepping about her, while the lady would turn and unspin and twist out of his arms, trying to stop the sash from tangling.

the author is heather dixon and the book entwined, you all have to go out and buy this book please you wont be dispointed. this was a type of book that i could not read anything for days after id finish reading it as i was just going over everything and reliving everything in my mind
