Parallel by Claudia Lafeve: Giveaway & Character Interview!

Stopping by The Book Faery today is Claudia Lafeve to support her new YA release Parallel. I have a character interview with Etta, the main character in Claudia's book, Parallel.

Destiny has a way of catching up.

Saddled with powers she doesn’t understand, Etta Fleming’s world turned upside-down the day she meets Cooper Everett, the man who transports her to an alternate reality. A reality she was meant to be a part of.One minute, she’s an orphan living in Dominion House for Girls, an institution for delinquent foster kids, then finds herself attending the exclusive Dominion Hall Academy.

Plucked from the only world she’s ever known, Etta now has to deal with an aunt she never knew, a boyfriend she doesn’t know, and a best friend who can’t know.

Etta! I am so pleased to have you here at The Book Faery! I have a few questions for you and I promise to keep it short!

1.Do you believe in destiny?
If you’d asked me a couple of months ago, I would have totally said that destiny doesn’t exist. You make your own choices and that’s that. But now, I’m beginning to realize that maybe we’re all just bit players in this big universe and if you take a wrong turn, life will ultimately guide you towards the path your were meant to take. It’s kinda like a GPS system. If you take a wrong turn, it will recalculate and reroute you, but the destination is still the same.

2.Tell us how you felt about the strange things that happened around you every time you got angry or frightened?

For a long time, I thought there was something wrong with me! The counselors and social workers at Dominion House all thought I was just this troubled kid that caused bad things to happen. The worst part was not being able to talk to anyone about it. It made getting close to people difficult because I didn’t want anyone to get hurt, not to mention admitting I was some kind of freak.

3.Talk about culture shock! What was it like to be pulled from the grim Dominion House to the exclusive Dominion Hall Academy?

Sure, it might seem like a dream come true, to be able to go from living your life in orphanage to living in a huge house and attending a posh private school, but it was pretty scary actually. Sure, everyone loves a good rags to riches story, but it was more intimidating than anything else. I mean, I got used to being a foster kid, you know? That and I had to pretend I’d been part of this new reality all along.

4.How did you feel about some of the changes that happened in your new life? How did it feel to suddenly have an Aunt and a boyfriend-people that actually cared about you?

I’m still figuring things out here in my new reality. Now that I know a bit more about my past, I don’t know if whether or not I wish things could go back to the way they were. But I am so grateful to have my Aunt Maggie in my life. As for the boyfriend situation, I’m still not sure what I want to do about that.

5.What were the positive aspects of traveling to this new dimension? What were the negative?

Getting to meet my family. I was only five when I thought my parent’s died in a plane crash. So being reunited with my dad and finally having someone like my Aunt Maggie around in my life is the best part about coming here. The worst is knowing some things aren’t the same. Can you imagine, finding out that all the books you’ve read don’t exist in other realities? Switching realities also put a damper on watching all my favorite TV shows.

6.If you could travel to your *perfect* dimension, what would your world be like?

To be able to meet my mother. I don’t remember much about her, but if there’s a reality in where I can be with my dad and Aunt Maggie, there has to be one where my mother is still alive. Now that I know that alternate worlds exists, I’m pretty much determined to find her.

To find your mother would be awesome-so many changes and so many different things to have to deal with! You're pretty amazing, Etta!
I can't thank you enough for stopping by my blog to chat with us, you're welcome to come by anytime!
