A Change on My Birthday Giveaway Contest!

I know that my Giveaway Contest was a bit difficult and came at a bad time with the Easter Blog Giveaway and Easter coming up.
Not only that but there wasn't much to give different answers to. I will be giving a $15.00 Gift Certificate to one lucky person out of the 20 people who did answer the first time out! I appreciated your answers, they were perfect and wonderful and so very helpful :o] You're all FAERYTASTIC (((HUGZ)))

The Giveaway for the $50.00 Gift Certificate is still on! My plan is to try to do the ONE-SIT-READ on Saturday's.

As for the $50.00 Gift Certificate, that will go to the person who does the best example of a ONE-SIT-READ from NOW to MONDAY, APRIL 25 at MIDNIGHT.

Remember, a OSR is a book that you really liked. One of those books that you find yourself:
  • Eagerly awaiting the next in the series-sometimes actually counting down the days!
  • Having a hard time putting down-if the phone rings, per chance, or it's midnight and you have to get up early the next day :o]
  • Still thinking about either a) after you've finished it or b) while you're still reading it but can't read it for some reason (work, kids, etc...),
  • Blowing off things like laundry, dishes, dinner,  and other things just to finish it-Yeah, like us book lovers would ever do ANYTHING like that! :o]
  • Incredibly bummed about after the last page just because the book ended
  • Wanting to know more about the author, upcoming books, other books the author might have written, tweeting about the book or to the author, participating in that author' book forum, joining a club or forum on that book or series-on Goodreads or another Blog, for instance
  • Posting the book or its author on your blog; either a count down to the next book or the author's website on your blog-roll i.e.
  • May leave you weeping, think a hot snotty mess-but in a good way :o]
  • That left you feeling Faerytastic; think happy sappy non-mess :o]
  • Any book that had an IMPACT on you!
When you write an OSR it should be short, simple and about why YOU liked it. Not a review, just a short paragraph that tells your fellow bloggers and readers why this book is a worthy read!

Here's a few examples of what you might base your paragraph on but keep in mind, it's your paragraph, these are just some pointers.
  • How the book made you feel. Sometimes when you're at a certain point in your life, you read a book that may help change your perspective on things.
  • Was it just the entertainment value?
  • Did the characters seem real and pull you into the book? Tell why they did or how they made you feel.
  • Was the world building so realistic that you felt like you stepped right into that world every time you opened the book?
  • What genre was it, was it steampunk, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, fantasy, romance, etc...Was it a genre you normally read? If not, were you surprised that you liked it?
Those are just a few things that I feel when I write or label a book as an OSR-There's more, obviously, those are just a few examples and of course, it's different for everyone which makes OSR's all the more interesting :o]

Write me an OSR on a book that impacted you in a way that you would label it as I explained above. It doesn't have to be the greatest book of all time but a book that made you FEEL something and one that you would recommend highly to friends and fellow bloggers.

State the name of the book, the author and then a short paragraph about the book explaining why you would rank it an OSR based on how the book made you feel, what it was about the book that made you feel that way about it.

The Best OSR wins a $50.00 Gift Certificate to either Amazon, Barnes and Noble or The Book Depository.

This is an International Giveaway Contest because I heart my International Blogger Buds!

Retweet this or pass it along for extra kudos!

Give me your best!

  1. ok i dont know if this is where i comment but my best one sit read was entwined by heather dixon,
its a retelling of the 12 dancing princess story.
i absolutly loved it. the author had a way of making you feel as if you were right there in the story from page one.

this is just a bit from my fave part

Excerpt that week, azalea taught her sisters the entwine. it was a tricky waltzlike dance, and a competitive one, where the lady and gentlemen each held an end of a long... sash and weren't allowed to let go. the gentleman would try to "catch" the lady bringing the sash about her wrists by pulling her into an under-arm turns and stepping about her, while the lady would turn and unspin and twist out of his arms, trying to stop the sash from tangling.

the author is heather dixon and the book entwined, you all have to go out and buy this book please you wont be dispointed. this was a type of book that i could not read anything for days after id finish reading it as i was just going over everything and reliving everything in my mind

  2. I have so many. Let me think.

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

This book was none stop action. It was an emotional roller coaster. I was sucked in right away and the whole way through I knew I couldn't stop until I finished the story. Sometimes I really just wanted to hug Clary and Jace. I was willing to stay up all night if thats what it took. Cassandra Clare builds such a fantastic world and really makes her characters feel like your best friends.

  3. Sorry I wanted to do one more. Okay this is for a series.

The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine

These books sucked me in like crazy. I read all 9 in a few weeks. One time my library called at 8pm to say my book was in and I took all 3 kids out (on a school night in the rain)to get it. Clare and Shane have this amazing sweet intense relationship. The evil ones you can never really tell is they are truly bad or not. They always leave you thinking. And always always leave you off dying for more. You get a smart girl who ends up with the bad boy fighting off vampires. Its crazy awesome. Action, Romance, Humor, and a great group of friends that you really want to see nothing bad ever happen to. You will even find yourself oddly attached to the bad guys, side characters and of coarse our main ones!

  4. I would have to Entangled by Cat Clarke, it's the first book that comes to mind, I loved it even when I thought I was going to hate it because it's not of my usual genre.

The most heart-moving story I have ever read, it made me laugh and made me cry, some of things, the protagonist Grace has gone through really makes you rethink your values and appreciate what you have. The characters are so real, the personalities and their actions reflect on teenagers of today, best characterisation I have seen in a long time. It's a standalone and not too long which is why I chose this as a OSR.

Seriously check it out, it's so good, most heart-moving story ever, its about a girl, her tangled life and hope.

  6. I'm currently in the middle of a OSR and it is...A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

    Why, you say?

I have been a fan of epic fantasy for a very long time and I'm also a huge fan of historical fiction. This book combines both elements at a precision level. I have been living, breathing, eating, and drinking this book...it's always close at hand. I've had a hectic schedule lately due to us moving this week and weekend, but the book comes with me...just in case I might snatch a snippet of reading time. I can't believe it took me this long to discover this series. I have to send a shout out to HBO for their series because they inspired my searching it out (before the series aired). I'm not the type that reads series' books one after the other, but I may just have to make an exception in this case!

  8. Star of the Morning by Lynn Kurland as well as the rest of the Nine Kingdoms series. It was a lot better than I expected and made me laugh. I have now read it three times. I went through the whole series at a ridiculous speed, was furious at the cliffhanger ending of Tapestry of Spells, thrilled at the release of Spellweaver, and now I am extremely annoyed that the next one will not be out until late next year. I posted a review of Star of the Morning on my blog: http://liedermadchen.blogspot.com/2011/04/book-review-51-star-of-morning-by-lynn.html

  10. My best OSR was from a genre I don't usually read. I typically stick to paranormal or dystopian type novels, but a couple of summers ago, in prep for the movie, I read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. When I finished it, I couldn't stop crying for like an hour! My husband had no idea what was wrong and all I could get out was "it was just so sad!". My husband is in the military and I read this before his first deployment, so I had a lot of fears and worries and could relate with the main character, Clare. She had to always worry about his safety and sometimes he could be gone for weeks at a time and she wouldnt know when he was going to be home. It was out of his control. By the way, the book had a different ending than the movie.

  11. My OSR is a book called The Phantom by Susan Kay. I have always been kind of obsessed with The Phantom of the Opera - the book(s), the movie(s), the musical, just the whole story seemed incredibly interesting - heartbreakingly sad and tragic on one hand and passionate and beautiful on other hand. I have heard many positive things about the book by Mrs. Kay, so I started to read it. Oh my, thats a book Ill never ever forget. I have never cried so hard while reading before. It tells the story of the Phantoms life - whole life and the part with Christine Dae is just few last chapters. Its incredible how true Mrs. Kay stayed to the original Lerouxs Phantom - things which he just briefly mentioned she described to details and in such an interesting way. Its definitely one of the best books Ive ever read. And it made me so emotional.

  12. Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

While there was no way I could actually read this book in one literal sitting, I did take it with me everywhere I went--to the bathroom, to the dinner table, even to a friend's house. Maybe that was a little rude, especially since I got the book as a Christmas present... Out of all the Harry Potter books, this one is my favorite because of the colorful characters, the fast-paced plot which is not only charming, but tragic, and of course, the Weasley twins epic departure from Hogwarts. I felt a plethora of emotions--happy, sad, intrigued, comical, and I even cried at the end. I love a book that makes me feel fully satisfied and gives me a well-rounded emotional experience--Order of Phoenix is a tale well come.

  14. My OSR was The Liar Society. I've heard great things about this book and when I received my copy, I went nuts!

I stayed up after midnight until 1 or 2 something in the morning. My mom kept waking up from time to time and yelled at me to sleep, but I didn't listen. I continued to read because I wanted to know what happened in the end and what really went on in the story.

I think TLS is one of those books that you can finish in one sitting, if not, then you would stay up late to continue to read on until you're done. It's too good to not finish it!

  17. My OSR is Mind Games by Carolyn Crane.

This world sucked me in with the unique and impressive take on disillusional mental weaknesses. The great fun characters are easy to feel for in this Urban Fantasy read. Not only was their adventure but mystery to figure out the characters and why they are where they are. And love! There are two potential loves and I SOOOOO Wanted the one and not the other. I love when I feel that strongly for one character. And can see both sides of the gray coin. And left me wanting more of the characters, magic, and adventure!

  18. I'm going to have to go with my most recently read book - Firelight by Sophie Jordan.

I had avoided reading Firelight for so long because the whole 'dragon' thing left me snorting (in disbelief, not fire). But then I picked up a copy from the library and started reading it while waiting at the bus stop. WHY DID THE BUS HAVE TO COME? It sucked me in from the very first page! I could not pull away from it's hypnotic grasp and the romance - oh the steamy sexual tension left me both satisfied and hungry for more. And surprisingly I found myself absolutely loving the mythology. Who would have thought decendants of dragons could be so. flipping. awesome?

I'm so excited for the sequel, Vanish. I'm plotting how best to render certain bloggers unconscious while I steal a copy of their ARC.

OSR is such a cool idea! Looking forward to seeing it come to fruition :) And thank you so much for the amazing giveaway!

  20. Darkest Mercy By Melissa Marr.

I love the Wicked Lovely series, also have, always will. I'm so emotionally invested in the series that I cried while reading reviews of it so when I received the book, I was terrified and on the verge of crying again. I do not often cry. Darkest Mercy surpassed all my expectations. Every word was a treat to read, every page all consuming as I read of the coming War. Did I mention I was terrified? I was so scared a character I loved would get hurt, I tried to tell myself "It's just a book" but then something mind blowing would happen and I'd be stunned. One of my favourite all time books, Darkest Mercy ended beautifully in a perfect circle.

  21. My OSR is Wither by Lauren DeStefano. I was hesitant at first because of the mixed reviews but when I saw it at the library, I couldn't resist. I was surprised at how quickly I was drawn into Rhine's world, something that hasn't happened since Hunger Games. If the book were a vegetable, it would be an onion because you keep peeling back the layers to discover something new - plot twiss, character, metaphors, world building, etc. I think the highest compliment I can give it is that after I finished, I wanted to get my own copy to keep. I would totally sell my granddad's kidney for a chance to read the sequel early.

So here's the link to my OSR http://wwwburiedinbooks.blogspot.com/2011/04/one-sit-reads-brought-to-you-by-book.html Sorry you can't click through to it. 24. My OSR would probably have to be Shadow of the Sun by Laura Kreitzer.

Her characters were so real and easy to connect with, plus the story line was intriguing all of the way through. Her Timeless series is about angels, but I found myself picturing them as the Greek gods, looking down on us from Mount Olympus. I had to find out what was going to happen next at the end of each chapter. I found myself staying up late into the night, not wanting to ever put it down.

    Thank you for doing this!

  25. I have read so many good books lately that this is a hard question to answer!

My OSR is Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. What a fantastic read! I loved the language and the story within a story format, and all of the characters were very likable. Minli, the protagonist, had a heart of gold, and because I liked her so much, the story was even more engaging. I cried at the end, for no other reason than that it was over!! Books like this remind me why I love to read - all of the stress in my life faded to the background, and I was transported to another world.

  26. One of my OSR's would have to be Dark Lover by J.R Ward. I was only introduced to her Black Dagger Brotherhood series about 2 years ago and I have never looked back. I've always been a sci-fi, fantasy reader, but as soon as I had Dark Lover and started reading I was gone. I stayed up late trying to cram the whole thing into one night. There was passion, danger, intrigue, hot sexy males and strong females. The story flowed so well I don't think I would have noticed if someone had thrown something at me. I felt a part of the story, I laughed with the characters and felt their pain. For that was my introduction into Paranormal Romance and I've never looked back.

As I made my way through a book a week last year, which is challenging with work, kids and writing, I veered away from a book classified as a romance despite the wonderful reviews and all the people recommending it. Finally, I picked it up at the library and sat down one evening to start it. I finished it that night, way past my bedtime. Regardless, I went online and bought it so not only could I have a copy, I could give it to my daughter to read. Though it doesn't have a sequel, I have read all the other books by this author over the last six months and am currently waiting to read her latest. The book I now encourage everyone to read? PERFECT CHEMISTRY by Simone Elkeles.

  28. Without question, for me, it would be Victoria Schwab's THE NEAR WITCH. I read the entire book over one night because I just couldn't put it down! And then I flipped right back to the beginning and read it over again the next day.

The story was just so incredibly haunting, it's a book that has stayed with me for months afterwards. Like I said in my review:

    1) It so completely drew me in and entangled me in the world of the story that if someone had jumped out in front of me while I was reading and shouted "Quick! Tell me where you are?" it would have taken me a good minute or two to come back to reality and read adjust my brain to the point where I could answer correctly; and

    2) at LEAST twice book had a moment so emotionally tense that I literally jumped up from my seat and didn't realize I was standing until the tense moment had passed.

To me, those are two signs of the ultimate OSR! Since the moment I finished it I've been recommending it left and right. I can't wait until it comes out in August so that I can physically GIVE it to people. :)

    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  30. Oops! Didn't mean to delet it. Let's try again, huh? Here it goes:

City of Fallen Angels was a fun read. I’m not sure if it was because Simon seemed to be the perfect counter weight to Jace’s antics or because I was thoroughly engaged in the love story of Jace and Clary or maybe it was because I wanted to see what had captured the imagination of my daughter. More than likely I wanted to capture the magic before it hits the big screen….

  31. The Mediator Shadowland book one by Meg Cabot. This is a great book for young adult readers. It is about a young girl who can sees ghosts and helps sends them to the other side. It made me laugh and I hope to read more in the series.

  32. Awesome giveaway, Kristi! I like this one.

My most recent OSR was a first for me on two counts. It was both my first Cassandra Clare novel and my first steam punk novel. I am talking about Clockwork Angel. As soon as I cracked open the shiny new cover (I was the first to check it out at the library!) and started to read, I was sucked right in and was loathe to put it down. I loved the characters so much. They were able to make me laugh, which I value greatly in a book's characters. I also cared about what happened to the characters and had many moments of anticipation to see how they would handle the situations they were in. The world of the book was constructed so well that I was easily able to imagine it from the appearance of the buildings to the colors of the entire city. I couldn't have picked a better book for my first steam punk and I am already wishing for Clockwork Prince to come out. In the meantime, I have gotten my hands on the first three Immortal Instruments books and have looked up more information on Cassandra Clare. I am most definitely a convert!

  33. My OSR is Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. This book make me want to know what would happen in the next chapter so I can't put it down until I finish it. The characters really pull me into the book. I really hate some characters in this book.

    Thanks for the chance !!!

  34. A book that immediately comes to mind is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, which I actually just finished reading. This book touches about difficulties of high school and teen suicide. The female protagonist, Hannah, kills herself and the book goes over the 13 reasons why she did it. Before she kills herself, she records her reasons in cassette tapes that are passed on to 13 people in her high school including Clay, the guy she liked in school who actually liked her back but just didn't know until it was too late. Reading about helplessness, frustrations, missed opportunities, how tough high school could be because of prejudices and mean teens who are just out there to get you, really touched me and made me shed bucket of tears while reading it.

I highly recommend it especially for teens out there who might be having a tough time in school and might be feeling like they are alone in this world battling everything else out there. You are not alone! And for those teens who haven't been nice and who don't care about their peers, sometimes a little bit of kindness in deed or in words, go a long way and could actually save a life!
