My First Thoughts: After reading the synopsis for Angelfire I thought Maaaybee it would be one of those books where the boy protects the girl and undying romance would ensue within chapter 2-3. Boy was I wrong. In fact, I couldn’t have been more off the mark and I was thankful for that. I was surprised and delighted at the Angel mythology presented by the author and her presentation was done in such a rare distinctive way

My Review: Ellie is just a normal High School student. She likes to do what normal high school girls do; shop, chill with her gal pals, hit the mall etc… Only she has a lot of money and is quite the bratty one. Then she meets Will, oh my, Will, Will, Will---whatever do you do with a guy like Will? Ellie’s a smart girl, she realizes he’s got it going on but she also knows that there’s something up with him, too.
Will eventually convinces Ellie that he is her Guardian and her memory becomes more prevalent as the book progresses. She is an extremely old warrior know as the Preliator, the Chosen One; the only one who can end the war between the Evil and the Good that is at war. In her past lives she was fierce and hunted down the evil reapers with a supernatural weapon that only she can wield but now she is mortal and her humanity is giving her trouble. Spoiled rich girls with Daddy issues aren’t always the easiest to train. Luckily for Will, Ellie has received enough of her memory back that she actually believes what is happening to her.
Will guides Ellie through her history, teaches her how to fight and then lays the big one on her which I will not spoil for everyone else but I’ll give a hint: She’s the only one who has it and it’s a reaper killer. Some of the scenes were a bit dragged out but the action scenes more than made up for it.
Will takes his time letting Ellie know about her past lives, he’s insanely devoted to her and while he helps her train he builds her up instead of knocking her down. She’s a different person when she’s a fighter then when she’s with her friends; it made me want to know more about their past lives i.e. were they lovers, fighters, etc… it would be so interesting to know what their past lives were like before this life. I think that could be a book in itself.
Secondary characters came into the book and left without a word which gives me hope for a sequel/series. I’d like to know what’s going on with her Father, I think he plays a role here somewhere but I haven’t quite figured it out yet.

My Summary: Surprisingly, there wasn’t a huge cliffhanger but there is definitely room for much more to take place. I enjoyed the book thoroughly and look forward to reading something by Ms. Moulton again in the future, hopefully tied in with Angelfire. I liked the Angel/ Demon mythology/lore and found it fascinating. Again, I’m looking forward to reading more of Ms. Moultons work.
