HEMLOCK by KATHLEEN PEACOCK

HEMLOCK by KATHLEEN PEACOCK is published by Katherine Tegen books, an imprint of HarperCollins publishers and will be released on May 8th of 2012 in all its 416 delicious pages!

Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered.

Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer: A white werewolf.

Lupine syndrome—also known as the werewolf virus—is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.

Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy’s murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy’s boyfriend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.

Kathleen Peacock’s thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spellbinding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about prejudice, trust, lies, and love.

THE FAERY'S FEELINGS:

Ok, here we go again! Another Beastie boy/ Lonely Girl romance that goes something like this:

 Girl falls in love with boy
 Girl notices something strange about boy
 Girl investigates boy and finds out that:
 GASP! He’s a werewolf!
 Whatever will she do?
 I Know! She’ll overlook his tendency to lick his butt and fall madly in love with him!

Okay, that’s so totally NOT what happened in Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock! I have got to stop being so dang judgmental and get over my occasional ‘you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all’ attitude. Despite the synopsis, I still figured that the checked off list I have above would be the gist of the book, again, I am deeply sorry for my mistake .

I’m not going to go over the synopsis since I’m sure it’s been done already but I’d like to talk about how well Ms. Peacock opened the plot and proceeded to surprise me. My checklist was put to shame and instead I found a beautiful love story albeit with a triangle component but I must confess-I do like a little competition when it comes to my girls and their love lives. Why settle for one hottie when you can have a little fun with two before finding your soul mate?

All kidding aside, the narrative was beautifully done when it came to the love scenario’s with Mr. Kyle-I must say that Ms. Peacock brought me to tears a few times and made me whoop a few times with her skilled dialogue! I wonder if there’s a really happy Mr. Peacock somewhere! Me thinks there is! Nobody could write romance like that without going through it somewhat!

The action… oh, the heart-pounding thrills, chills and action that Ms. Peacock narrates is literally, at times, take your breath away-squeeze your honey (or your pillow if no honey is available). The mystery was slow to reveal itself and the suspense was enough to keep me turning pages like a fiend and believe me when I get going, those pages are smokin’! I’m happy to say my ARC copy of Hemlock didn’t catch fire since I had to return it to the Blog Tour!

Ms. Peacock’s character portrayals are amazing-I can say, ‘oh, they were so realistic’ or ‘they made me really care about them’ because what can you really say about how a character is portrayed? In Ms. Peacock’s case, her characters were big as life-I did feel like I knew them-They were Realistic and she brought them to life for me from her words to my eyes to my imagination. What an amazing thing to be able to do!

Hemlock is one of those books that I’ll always remember and Ms. Peacock is an author that I will always look forward to her writings. The next installment cannot come quick enough for me even though there wasn’t the traditional ‘cliffy’, the Untitled Hemlock 2 is already on my want list!

THE FAERY SAYS THAT HEMLOCK BY KATHLEEN PEACOCK ROCKED MY WINGS AND THEN SOME!
