Eden won the battle-she saved her true love from the darkest evil. But the war has only just begun. With secrets swirling around her, powerful allies unraveling, and life-and death-as she knows it eroding, Eden and those she loves tread dangerous ground. Can she trust anyone? Will her unearthly powers be her salvation or her downfall? A sweeping, dark, and sexy paranormal romance that will haunt readers with an inventive mythology and a cinematic New York City filled with shadows and longing.

After reading A Touch Mortal by Leah Clifford, I couldn’t wait for A Touch Morbid. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on an ARC that I whipped through in one day. Leah is an author who can weave the dark-side beautifully with all the chills and wiggens while still maintaining a sense of hope and wonder.

I adored the characters in A Touch Morbid! Even bad boy Luke a.k.a Lucifer has a side to him that is ultra-appealing despite the fact that he is, indeed, the devil. He’s the dude we all love to hate, even when he’s wearing skin tight leather pants literally oozing sexuality while crooning to a crowd. Deep down inside, I really wanted to hate him yet there was still a part of me that went “Hubba, hubba! You big hunka' burnin’ love you…..!” That’s the beauty of Leah’s dynamic descriptives, I saw so much of the characters both inside and out that I had a clear image of who they were in my mind.

Eden has really toughened up, almost to the point where she seems a bit too hard at times. Good thing I was able to see her inner dialogue which revealed all of her fears and her sense of responsibilities to her makeshift family. She often makes what I would call dumb decisions but her heart was always in the right place, that could have easily been handled if she would’ve put a little more faith into Az and Gabe-their communication was stilted, to say the least and with all three of them ready to throw themselves under a bus for the other, that’s not a good thing.

Az is fighting constantly not to ‘fall’, he wants more than anything to just have a life with Eden- peacefully- without the constant threats hanging over their heads. Az is truly in love with Eden but there is an angel who will stop at nothing to see Az fail and the reason why is astonishing. I will give this little tidbit-it has nothing to do with Luke or Az, for that matter!
Gabe! Oh, how I heart me some Gabe! He’s one of the most fantastic characters ever written! He is generous, compassionate, kind and just-GOOD! But…there is a dark side to Gabe that will be revealed in A Touch Morbid that will shock every fan of this series. It was so shocking to me that I had to set the book down for a bit just to process what I had just read. There are some huge surprises in store when it comes to Gabe.

The secondary characters are just as well described and they play an active role in the outcome of A Touch Morbid.

The plot is unbelievably fascinating as in ‘the edge of your seat and blow your mind’ category! So much going on, who to trust, who is friend and who is foe? There’s changes occurring to Eden that are frightening and nobody seems to have any answers, there are rogue siders that are using their touch much like a drug dealer and the bound are becoming more interested as each day goes by.

A Touch Morbid is one of the best books I’ve read in 2012. It has a fantastic plot, characters that I know and love plus the addition of some new characters that are just as wonderful, a beautiful and true soul-mate romance along with danger, thrills and chills and suspense that is edgy enough to make me bite my nails to the quick! I couldn’t recommend this series enough!

This is a One-Sit-Read, the highest honor this reviewer can give!

On a more personal note: This review is purposefully spoiler free, as all my reviews are but I won’t even ‘re-hash’ the book because to do so will give away vital bits of information therefore ruining it for the reader. This is one book that should be read with an open and free mind without any hints of what exactly to expect.

Thank you to ATWT and the publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review

  1. I keep thinking about reading the first one in this series, but for some reason I always move it to the bottom of the pile. Sounds like the follow-up is fabulous, so I should really try to get the first one back up to the top. :) (Especially since I'm a sucker for good characters, which it sounds like this has!)

    Great review, Kristi!

  2. I think you'd really love the series, Jessi. It's got a bit of a dark edgy feel to it but it's also very unique in it's approach to the whole Angel vs. Demon theory.
The characters are fantastic and the plot rocks. I hope you decide to read it, if I had them in book format, I'd loan them to you :o]

  3. I like the title, cos I can't say I have seen many titles with that in them :) And that feels refreshing

  4. The best book you've read this year? But the year just started. LOL

Let's see if it will make it to your top 10 lists, eh? I still need to read the first book, and your One-Sit-Read award is making me want to do so right away.

    Glad you're feeling better, buttercup!

  8. I haven't read the first one of this series so I didn't read your review only skimmed it, but now I know I'm right to want to read the series. I've been wanting that first book forever. So I'll put this one all my wish list as well. Thanks for letting me know what a great writer Leah Clifford is!
