COLD KISS by AMY GARVEY

Title:  Cold Kiss
Author:  Amy Garvey
Publisher:  HarperTeen
Publication Date:  September 20, 2011
Pages:  304
Genre:  YA Paranormal Romance; Zombie

It was a beautiful, warm summer day, the day Danny died.

Suddenly Wren was alone and shattered. In a heartbroken fury, armed with dark incantations and a secret power, Wren decides that what she wants—what she must do—is to bring Danny back.

But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy Wren fell in love with. His touch is icy; his skin, smooth and stiff as marble; his chest, cruelly silent when Wren rests her head against it.

Wren must keep Danny a secret, hiding him away, visiting him at night, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school, and Wren realizes that somehow, inexplicably, he can sense the powers that lie within her—and that he knows what she has done. And now Gabriel wants to help make things right.

But Wren alone has to undo what she has wrought—even if it means breaking her heart all over again.

THE FAERYS VIEW

Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey was one of the most unique zombie books I’ve read this year! It had the creep factor down, the undying teen love and the paranormal elements that I love but... I kept waiting for something big to happen and it never quite did.

When Wren resurrects her boyfriend, Danny, she’s deliriously happy but it doesn’t take her long to figure out that he isn’t quite the same Danny he used to be and it isn’t quite as fun hiding out as it was hanging out with their friends. The more dependent Danny becomes on Wren the more she sees the dilemma she’s put them both in. A boy named Gabriel comes along who has his own special power and a love triangle begins, in a way. The relationship between Gabriel and Wren didn’t quite seem that real to me either. Eventually, something has to be done with Danny.

The overall tone of the book was monotone to me; there were never any real ups or any real downs. The relationships didn’t quite hit the mark and I’m not quite sure how I feel about Wren, there were times I liked her and times I thought she was incredibly selfish.

All in all, Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey just didn’t do it for me. I liked it enough to finish it but that’s about it.

Thank you Netgalley, Harperteen and Around the World Tours for allowing me access to this Book/Galley for exchange of an honest review.

THE BOOK FAERY SAYS: IT DIDN'T QUITE DO IT FOR ME BUT IT MIGHT FOR YOU~

  1. I felt this was a bit more than your common zombie book, which is what I was looking for when I picked it up..it was really quite tragic. I felt sorry for Danny, and disliked Wren thru most of the book. I thought what she did was selfish and esp when things started to change. Like you it keep my interest, but it was far from the book I thought it was going to be

  5. Tee, Val & Mocha-I was really disappointed, I was expecting so much more to happen. The story itself wasn't terrible but it was dry and boring. I really kept waiting for things to happen-a little chaos to ensue, etc... but it just never did. Again, it wasn't terrible-just a let down :o[ I never really felt any of the characters which kind of sucked. I felt pity for Danny but I didn't get drawn into the characters like I usually do. They just felt flat.

Natalie - I know! I follow Pitch Dark, too and the other books rock. Cold Kiss is the exception. I actually gave it a 3 on GR but I marked it up from a 2.5, if you have a Kindle, I'll 'loan' it to you.

Like Tee said, Wren wasn't a likable character and poor Danny was the one who was truly suffering but I don't want to put any spoilers in here.

Just disappointed is all I can say

  7. Bum deal, but I'm glad for your honest opinion because I'd probably find this one underwhelming too if nothing big really happens.
