Wings by Aprilynne Pike

Wings (Wings, #1)Wings by Aprilynne Pike

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I absolutely devoured this book! I love going into the "Faery World" in almost any book and Wings was no exception.

Wings is a story about a girl, Lauren, who has always felt different but actually is. She goes through a move from a small town to a larger one where she’s forced to attend public school after being homeschooled.

She meet’s a boy, David who immediately becomes her friend which develops into something more throughout the book. When she develops bumps between her shoulder blades she immediately thinks of cancer or some other horrid disease but those bumps soon ‘blossom’ in the truest ‘sense’ of the word! She has large blooms resembling wings that give off an intoxicating scent that is only hers.

With much research from David, who loves science, he discovers that Lauren’s cells are made of plant material. Lauren decides to go home to Orick, her hometown and see if she can get some answers. There she meets Tamani (Tam). He gives her the low down on whom and what she is; which explains a lot in the way of her preferred strict vegan diet and her preference to be outdoors in the coolest of weather. He tells her that he and other faeries have been guarding Lauren and her home in Orick; the wooded property leads to the gate way into the Faerie Realm.

Evil Trolls (think of wicked mobster types) are trying to buy it from Laurens parents; when they don’t sell bad things happen.

The play between Lauren, David and Tamani is amusing, to say the least. Lauren wants to protect her family yet she yearns for her true home.

The story is exciting, suspenseful, enchanting and has its fair share of stressful moments; let’s not forget the romance, either!
